When your body is getting the nutrition it needs, you’ll know it. But don’t just try any old diet or nutrition plan; make sure you choose a diet that works for you. For example, I run marathons, ride several horses per day, and am extremely active. I tried to become a vegetarian, and within a few days I knew I wasn’t getting enough protein to sustain my active lifestyle. I didn’t want to take supplements, and I couldn’t eat enough protein packed vegetables to fulfill my requirements, so I switched back. However, for many people, being a vegetarian is exactly what their body needs to be healthy.

The best place to start when you’re trying to figure out what nutrition plan is right for you is to talk to a nutritionist. You can even begin by creating a list of the foods you eat and how they make you feel. For example, foods high in carbonation and sugar may give you energy for a few moments, but in the end they leave you grumpy and tired. No matter what type of nutrition your body needs, everyone can benefit from a daily vitamin, a variety of fruits and vegetables, daily grains such as rice and oatmeal, and healthy proteins.
