Safety Checks for Winter

With winter approaching, there are some precautions people should take in order to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. First, make sure your home furnace is in working condition after not being used all summer. Having a furnace stop working can make a normal winter week the worst week of your life. Next, check all your windows and doors to be sure no cracks or potential leaks are present. Also, be sure that any hoses or pipes you have outside are not at risk to freeze and break. In addition, check all of your trees to be sure that they are not at risk to break from the weight of snow and the cold.

Another area to consider is your car. Be sure that your car has snow tires or four wheel drive if you plan on driving through any snow. Keeping chains in your car and checking your spare tire should also be done if you are looking to stay safe. In addition, visibility in the dark winter months is crucial, so replace your windshield wiper blades if necessary. Finally, check the weather forecasts and be prepared to change your plans for extreme weather.
