A Few Golf Tips From Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is the undisputed king of professional golf. With a smooth technique you could set your watch by, he makes winning those championships look like a walk in the park.

Imagine if you could sit with Tiger for a few minutes and pick his brain to help improve your game. Here are some great golf tips from Tiger Woods.

It’s All About Rhythm

Every player has their own natural rhythm. Some players are energetic and full of motion; others are stoic and deep in concentration.

Tiger says that when he’s playing his best, everything he does is just second nature. He just goes with the flow, and there’s little else involved. That’s because he’s found just the right groove that suits his natural rhythm.

If the rhythm’s off, Tiger misses a swing or two. When things are flowing for him, he has to work a little to get it back into a natural rhythm.

So, how do you learn to keep your natural rhythm? There are a few ways Tiger suggests to help you find your groove and keep it.

Stick To Your Routine

Rhythm and consistency are important, so how you get ready both physically and mentally for the game is essential. Tiger has a practice routine that he does before every single game. He uses the same clubs, and the last club he uses for his pre-game warm-up is the one he plans to use for the first hole.

The point isn’t to practice swinging, but to get into your groove.

The First Hole Is The Most Important

Long before he swings for that first hole, Tiger plans the whole game ahead. He prepares himself for the game mentally and emotionally. This involves relaxation, and deciding his game plan beforehand.

An awkward, uncertain first shot is a sure-fire rhythm-killer.

Keep Things Steady

To keep your rhythm going, you have to keep the tempo steady. When you get stressed, you start to speed things up. All that nervous energy makes you hurry to the next hole, and you end up making silly mistakes you wouldn’t have made otherwise.

The next time you watch Tiger play, pay attention to the way he walks to the next hole. Even after a great shot, you’ll never see him rush on to the next one. He’ll pump his fist, smile, and stroll to the next hole with the same leisurely pace.

Tiger recommends a good pre-routine warm-up that helps you get into a relaxed frame of mind. This will get you started on the right foot. For more info see http://www.getgoodatgolf.com/ on golf course.

Posture Means Perfect

When asked for practical golf tips, Tiger Woods always mentions posture. Tiger always stands straight and tall, a decent distance from the ball so that he can keep his chin up. Lots of golfers (including Tiger when he was a beginner) put their address position too close to the ball, and end up having to bow their head down too much. Tiger says to keep a good distance away so you don’t have to lean over the ball.

Tiger Woods is not only one of the best players, he’s also one of the most reflective. Perhaps the key to his success is his ability to look at his mistakes and shortcomings, and work to improve them, instead of getting frustrated. This is why his golf tips are so helpful to his fans. When you blow it, think about why you did it. Then, correct it next time, and you’ll see improvement.

The Ideal Golfing Trip

What is the ideal golfing trip?

For some golfers the ideal outing would be going to a major course and getting to play on it, knowing professional golfers had played over this same course.

What golfer would not want to play the course where the Master?s or U.S. Open is held?

Most would almost kill (figuratively speaking) for the chance.

These are courses where legends have played – players such as Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. (Yes, Woods can be considered a legend of golf based simply on the fact he has won so many tournaments at such a young age.)

For others, though, the ideal golfing is not so much where they play as to the weather conditions. Some golfers prefer a day with mild temperatures and a light breeze to help keep them cool, while others want a challenge and will go to the extremes weather-wise.

There are those who will play when the temperature hits triple digits, or drops well below freezing, just to see how well they play under these circumstances.

And, there are golfers who will play in the snow and at night. Specially designed golf balls have been created for these golfers.

The night players can chase their glow-in-the-dark golf balls all over the course, but need to take a flashlight to prevent running into a tree or some other hazard on the course. For those who play in the snow, fluorescent golf balls were created. These brightly colored balls are easy to see against the snow-covered course.

Either way, golfing in the extreme is a challenge, and not one for the faint of heart, or the poor of play. For golfers who play in extreme heat, they need to remember to bring plenty of water to drink and leave all alcoholic beverages alone.

Those who play in the cold should have something warm to drink in a thermos to help keep their body temperature up, even if they are walking the course. But, these people tender to consider this to be ideal golf outings.

For most golfers, though, the ideal golf outing is simply the chance to go to their favorite course with a few friends and chase golf balls all over the pasture, just having a good time and not taking the game too seriously.

This is the most prevalent type of golfer, and these players can usually be found playing in couples and foursomes. They will chide one another on a bad shot, while complimenting one another on good shots and putts. The final score rarely matters (unless they tend to be serious golfers), as they are on the links to have a good time and get away from the stresses of every day life.

Oddly enough, there are golfers who prefer to play the game by themselves. The solo golfer will most likely walk the course, getting to know the feel of every tee box, fairway and green with his or her feet.

Whether you?re looking to travel to new courses every chance you get, to find extreme challenges, hoping to improve your game, or just enjoy the drive, the putt and the satisfaction of a completed round of golf, it?s up to you to define your ideal golfing experience. All that?s left after that is to go out and make it happen.

Rotation, Rotation, And More Rotation In Your Golf Swing

In real estate, it?s location, location and location.

In golf, it?s all about rotation. More power requires better rotation. To keep your body healthier, it?s about better rotation. For consistency, you?d better be able to rotate.

The body rotates around a spine angle that should be fixed or stable, keeping your club on the proper swing path. Are you able to do this with your swing?

This may be the idea that separates the high handicapper and low handicapper: the ability to rotate your body, keeping the club on a consistent swing plane.

Admittedly, some of the pros like Jim Furyk make some interesting movements in the swing, but if you dissect it a little further, you will notice they keep the club in a certain slot on the backswing and on the downswing. Every tour player is able to rotate around a fixed or stable spine angle, make a linear weight transfer, and successfully hit the golf ball.

This is the goal of the golf swing: keep the golf club in a slot, essentially dissecting the shoulder on the back swing and follow through.

How many of us do that?

Fewer than we would probably like to admit. So how do we rotate the body and keep the club in this slot? The answer is probably not the one we would like to hear. It requires developing a ?feel? for the golf swing and knowing what the body is doing at every step of the golf swing.

Essentially, you must develop a feel for both the club and your body. Some of us are better at it than others. At this point, it is ingrained into the body and you will know when the swing is off and what to correct. Keep in mind, we are not going to make a perfect swing every time, but that is our goal.

How do we go about keeping the swing on the correct plane and developing ?feel??

I know of two possibilities. One of the answers is probably quite obvious.

The first answer to this question has to do with your golf swing mechanics. Yes, probably not a surprise to many of you.

The golf swing is an intricate, biomechanical movement requiring you to perform a large number of movements with the correct timing and no room for error.

Understanding the correct biomechanical sequence of the golf swing and the ability to execute it take great instruction, a good amount of practice, patience and time.

The body can learn either the correct or incorrect way to swing a golf club. As a result, it is imperative to receive quality instruction on the proper way to swing a club.

Secondly, the mind and body learn new movements through repetition. The only way to learn the correct golf swing is through consistent practice. Practice ingrains into your brain, nerves, and muscles how to properly execute the movements of the golf swing, the correct sequence of the golf swing, and the correct timing of the golf swing.

Finally, to learn the golf swing correctly it takes time. It is not an overnight process but requires consistent time spent practicing and playing. Don?t let anyone fool you that there is a quick-fix patch that will drop your handicap 25 strokes while you?re sleeping.

Over a certain time period the body will learn the swing. It?s different for each of us. Once the body learns the swing, the ?feel? begins to develop. Once you get that feel, you will begin know exactly where your clubhead is at all times during the golf swing.

I can?t feel a thing!

Most of us understand that the golf swing is a rotational movement and requires learning the proper biomechanics of the golf swing. However, the second part of the answer of developing ?feel? may be less understood.

Now think about this for a second. What if your body is not able to rotate around a fixed spine angle? If you can?t rotate, it will be very, and I mean very, hard to keep your club in a slot.

I see it all the time with amateurs. They want to develop a good swing desperately, but are unable to do so because of a weak, inflexible, and powerless body.

If you are inflexible in the hips, how are you going to rotate in a manner that places the club in the correct slot for the downswing? It?s not going to happen!

If you have poor balance, how are you going to develop ?feel? in the golf swing? You?re not!

It comes down to this notion about the golf swing.

Your body is performing the mechanics of the golf swing. In order to do this properly, your body must have certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power.

The only, and I mean only, way to develop a good swing and ?feel? within your swing requires a body that can support your swing.

The swing is a very complex movement requiring a synergy between your body and the mechanics of the swing. If you attempt to develop a swing without a body to support it, you are on your way to a very frustrating experience and lowering your handicap will be a trying time.

I would strongly suggest implementing a program that develops your swing mechanics in conjunction with your body. The exercises in Your Body & Your Swing will take your body to where it needs to be.

If you are looking for help learning the correct golf swing mechanics, take a look at our golf swing instructional videos. Putting both the body and the swing together will give you the results you?re looking for.

Dealing With Down Slopes

In some of my golf tips I tell the story about playing a course which had severe fairway undulations. I could see where the course would be discouraging for recreational golfers. I seldom had a flat lie on the course. In fact, it was so hilly, I was almost always hitting from some kind of slope. More often than not, I was hitting down hill.

If you?ve ever played a course like this?and you probably have?you know how tricky hitting from a downhill lie can be. It?s especially difficult for recreational golfers, who are sometimes intimidated by a downhill slope and/or have little experience hitting from this type of lie. The resulting effort isn?t pretty and does nothing to lower the player?s golf handicap.

Hitting from a downhill slope is primarily a matter of making the right adjustments. I cover these in my golf lessons and golf tips but, obviously, there?s nothing like hitting from a down hill slope to learn how to do it.

Here are the 4 adjustments I recommend:

Tailor set-up for slope
Position ball back in stance
Swing with the slope
Chase ball down the slope

Keep two things in mind when faced with a downhill lie: (1) a shot from a down slope tends to fade right and (2) the slope affects the club?s loft.

The tendency to fade is a by-product of the slope. There?s little you can do about it. Even if you hit the ball perfectly, it will tend to fade right, so learn to deal with it as best you can, as I emphasize in my golf lessons.

Club loft is different. You can deal with it easily enough. On a steep slope, hitting a 7-iron becomes more like hitting a 5-iron, necessitating an adjustment in club selection depending on how far you are from the green. How much of an adjustment is hard to say. And golf instruction sessions don?t help, either. Only personal experience can tell you just how much to make.

Also, tailor your set up to the slope. That means making sure your spine is perpendicular to the slope and your weight on your front foot, a weight distribution you must maintain throughout the backswing. As a result, your shoulders will tilt downward to match the lie of the land. These changes ensure clean contact with the ball, positioned toward the back of the stance.

Another problem with downhill lies is trajectory. To generate height, hit down and with the slope, as if you?re chasing the ball downhill. Chase it for as long as possible by forcing your right shoulder to follow the ball to the target.

Also, don?t let the transfer of weight get out of control at impact. Stay as balanced as possible, finishing the swing with a nice, smooth follow-through. Clearing your left hip as you swing down and through the ball helps with the follow-through.

These changes in your set-up and swing, as I point out in my golf lessons, almost mirror those needed for uphill lies.

With uphill lies, the weight is on the back foot, the ball is positioned forward in the stance, and the tendency is to pull the ball left, which is caused by a golfer?s hands getting overactive through impact. Also, concentrate on making a wide takeaway. This change counteracts the tendency to narrow your backswing, which often occurs on an uphill lie.

Whether uphill or downhill, you must control weight transfer and you must swing down and with the slope. You also must control your head, keeping it behind the ball at the point of impact.

If you make the changes I recommend in this golf tip the next time you play a hilly course, you?ll find yourself hitting better shots from a sloped fairway. You?ll also find yourself developing more and more confidence playing a hilly course?and confidence never hurt anyone?s golf handicap.

Air Filter Cleaning Motocross Maintenance

Any motocross racer will tell you that results depend a great deal on not just the skill of the rider, but the dependability of the bike, which is why correct motocross maintenance is essential for you to begin getting those much deserved results.

Among one of the most crucial aspects of motocross maintenance is cleaning the air filter on the bike. The air filter is the number one shield for your engine and without it, your bike would be sucking air and particles, directly through to the engine, this may include dust, or general rubbish. Your air filter basically forms a bubble, not allowing any debris or dust to pass through and can even soak up water if you find yourself in such a position, so it’s always shrewd to keep it clean.

Motocross Maintenance is overlooked by many people, especially cleaning the air filter on a motocross bike as it is normally a nasty job.

This is a fairly easy way to clean a filter,an basic part of motocross maintenance, although other riders prefer to use different methods. You will need to detach the seat from your machine, which will give you access to the airbox. Remove the filter and place it in a bucket. Once in the bucket you can either fill it with hot soapy water, or filter cleaner (make sure you get yourself some latex gloves). Filter cleaner is the wiser choice, but some prefer to use hot and soapy water, mainly because it’s cheaper!

This can be a time consuming part of motocross maintenance, but don’t get dejected, it has to be done! Make sure you eliminate all dirt and oil particles before washing through with cold pure water, and let it dry COMPLETELY. This is essential, if you install a wet filter to a machine, the suction from the engine may drag the water particles through causing top and bottom end damage.

Once the filter is dry, you have two options; spray on air filter oil or conventional oil. Spray on oil is the easier option, but make certain you coat the filter properly, as sometimes its easy to miss spots. With the normal oil, I tend to wear latex gloves and put the filter into a plastic bag with some oil, then slowly knead it into the filter. Which ever way you coat your filter with oil, always make sure you allow the filter to dry for a little, as surplus oil could block jets in your carburettor, causing engine failure.

There; a fairly basic job and your ready to go, the air filter section of motocross maintenance is done!

Crucial motocross maintenance Points:

Some riders prefer to use petrol. While this is an brilliant way to get rid of dirt and grime quickly, the chemicals in petrol can damage the seams of glue, which can allow dirt particles in and therefore leave your engine exposed.

Some riders like to use a coat of grease to seal the filter to the airbox. This is in fact something I do myself, as I take no chances. You can use grease made for this exact purpose, or any universal grease, just apply a tiny amount around the rim of the filter and it should create a perfect seal.

Oiling filters is a messy job, but a well worth while part of motocross maintenance. Its astute to try and do a bulk load of filters in one go, once they are done, wrap them up in plastic bags, so you can change the one fitted to your motocross bike quickly, if you hit an exceptionally muddy or dusty track.

*Do not attempt to start or ride your motocross bike without oiling your air filter. Without oiling your filter, you have not completed the above steps of motocross maintenance. The oil acts like a spiders web, catching all particles that may damage your engine, by running your bike without oil, you are running the risk of damaging your engine.
